Recent Awards

Two Departments Receive Recognition

At the April 2000 meeting for the Village Board of Trustees, two awards were announced: one for the Water Department and the other for the Waste Water Treatment Plant. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region 4 Director Steve Schassler announced today that the Montgomery County village of St. Johnsville received an Andrew M. Weist Operation & Maintenance Awarded for the operation of their wastewater treatment plant.

The Andrew M. Weist O & M Excellence Awards recognize wastewater treatment facilities that implement innovative and outstanding operations, maintenance and management programs that result in high levels of continued performance and efficiency.

"Municpal wastewater treatment facilities are the backbone of New York State's water quality protection efforts. These awards recognize municipalities that have demonstrated outstanding efforts to protect water quality," Schassler said. "This award also recognizes the wastewater treatment facility staff for their find work and dedication to protecting public health, the environment, and the public's investment."

The New York Rural Water Association (NYRWA) has selected the Village of St. Johnsville as its Year 2000 Water System of the Year. This award was presented to the Village on May 23, 2000 at New York Rural Water Association’s 21st Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition in Rochester. Accepting the award of behalf of the Village of St. Johnsville was Jeff Swartz, Chief Operator and Water Superintendent.

In 1998, St. Johnsville was awarded "The Best Tasting Water" award.
